Dublin in 1872. A son Samuel was born in 1875 - he was killed in
Liverpool.
I was unable to
locate any Winnings in Grange in the 1851 Irish Census.
Note that most Irish census records were destroyed
by fire in the 1920's.

OF PIONEER FAMILY DIES IN NEEPAWA
HOSPITAL
Funeral
service for Mrs. Maria Elizabeth Winning, 85, Lobbville, Man., who died
in
Neepawa District Memorial Hospital, Saturday October 20, 1954, after a
short
illness, was held in the United Church, Neepawa, Tuesday, October 23 at
2 p.m.
Rev. W.H. McDonald officiated and burial was in the family plot,
Riverside
Cemetery.
Pallbearers
were: four grandsons, Thos. M. Turnbull, Richard J. Turnbull, Peter
B. Winning, David B. Winning, and James Donaldson and John Crammond.
Mrs.
Winning, the former Maria Elizabeth Hamilton, was born in Emmett
County,
Iowa, U.S.A. and came to Canada
in 1877 as a small child with her parents, the late Mr. and Mrs.
Robinson
Hamilton and family. After spending their first winter in Palestine, Man.
(now Pine Creek) they located on a homestead six miles south of
Neepawa. She
received her education in Osprey and Neepawa schools. Her marriage to
Robert
Winning took place in Neepawa, where they made their home from 1899 to
1910,
when they left to reside in Winnipeg.
In 1929 they moved to Helston, then to Lobbville. Mr Winning died 1
April 1948.
The
last surviving member of a family of 10, she was a sister of Mrs. J.J.
Hamilton, wife of the first mayor of Neepawa; B.R. Hamilton, Jos. H.;
W.M.;
James and Jack Hamilton.; Mrs. George Mathers and Mrs. A. E. Kellington
well
known pioneer residents of Neepawa.
Surviving
are four daughters, Mrs. Mary Comer, New York;
Miss Doris Winning; Mrs Enid Turnbull; Mrs. Edna Williams, Winnipeg;
three sons Robert C. Winning, Winnipeg;
David R.
and William J., Lobbville,
Man. There are 15
Grandchildren.

obituary. March 08, 2004
“The
"R" in David's name is Robinson. We knew most Maria's children
quite well. We own the Robert Sr. land they speak of at Helston.
Perett's have
rented the "Lobbville" land from Dave, Bill and Doris for more than
35 years. Doris ended up owning Bill's land and when Doris
died Dave's son, David B. inherited it. When Bob Jr. died Doris ended
up owning
it and when Doris died she willed it
to one of
Bob's twin daughters. The first twin promptly died and she left it to
her twin
and she immediately sold it. When Dave died he left it to his 4 kids.
And now
that one of his daughters (Heather) has just passed away, David B. has
just
bought the other 3 out.”

was married to Vic Tracy in Winnipeg
before they moved to the coast. They had 2 girls only. Colleen is the
oldest
and she married but parted and has Claire. Shannon married too but is
parted
and she has Sydney.
The other kids and grandchildren are Lorne's.
Diane's
husband is Jim Gorton, David's wife is Iris Thomson and Kim had wives
by the names of Pauline ? and then Arlene? but are out of the picture.

139. Obituary of ELSIE WINNING
Elsie (nee
Donaldson) passed away in hospital in Coquitlam, B. C. September 29,
2001, at the age of 94. She had been staying with her daughter, Diane,
in
Coquitlam for the
past year. Elsie was born August 9, 1907, in Helston, Manitoba,
and grew up on the Arden Ridge in the Sinclairville school area on the
farm now owned by her nephew, Ken
Donaldson. As a
young women she worked in Winnipeg.
Elsie married David
Winning in 1937 and they farmed on the Arden Ridge until 1955, when
they moved back to Winnipeg to send their children to university. Elsie
returned to work at the Deer Lodge Hospital until she retired in 1972
and returned to live on the Ridge.
Elsie will be
remembered as one of the pioneers of the Sinclairville area. She was
always willing to help with community events. She loved to dance, play
cards and enjoyed the neighbours dropping in for coffee. She was always
busy and all her children benefitted from the lovely quilts she made
for them over the years.
Elsie will be sadly
missed by her brother Harry, sons David (Iris) and Kim, daughters Diane
(Jim) and Heather (Lome), grandchildren Cindy, Kirby, Jacqueline,
David, Colleen, Shannon, Paul, Shannon, Nicholas, great-grandchildren
Rod, Karly, Elliot, Nicole, Claire, Sydney, Abigail and new baby Alaura.
A memorial service
was held at the United Church in Neepawa on Friday, October 5, at two
o'clock. Interment was at the Riverside Cemetery in Neepawa.
In lieu of flowers,
should friends so desire, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer
Society, 172 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 2B7.

Obituary of David Robinson
Winning
David Robinson
Winning Formerly of the Edrans area, Dave passed away peacefully on
June 11, 1992,
at East View Lodge. He is survived by his devoted wife Elsie, sons
David and
Kim, daughters Heather and Diane, son-in-law Jim and daughters-in-law
Iris and
Arlene, ten grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and many nieces and
nephews. Also surviving are two sisters, Enid and Edna. Dave was born
in Cupar, Saskatchewan
on November 22, 1907. He spent his early life on the farm near Helston
and in Winnipeg.
He served four
years in the Air Force during World War II. In 1950, he moved to Winnipeg while
his
children went to school, and returned to retire on the farm. Besides
farming,
Dave worked in many different areas to support his family and put his
children
through school. He worked for Manitoba Hydro, the Department of
Highways, and
private contractors both locally and up north. He was very active all
his life,
loved dancing and enjoyed all sports especially hockey, baseball and
golf. He
was a strong proponent of education and learning and encouraged his
children
and grandchildren to go to university. In his later years he was sadly
stricken
with Alzheimers disease. He will be greatly missed by all the family.
The
funeral service was conducted by Reverent G. Scott on Monday, June 15
at 2:00
pm at White's Funeral Home in Neepawa with interment in the Neepawa Cemetery.
The pallbearers were Brian Crammond, Lome Crammond, Ken Donaldson,
Leonard
Perrett, Bill Beggs, Fred Klassen. The family wishes to thank their
friends and
neighbors for their kindness and support and Home Care, We Care, the
staff of
East View Lodge and Dr. White for their care. They also wish to thank
the Royal
Canadian Legion for their honour guard and the Ladies Auxiliary for the
luncheon.

known in Neepawa, was born in Emmett County, Iowa. U.S.A.,
in 1889 and at the age of five, emigrated to the Neepawa district with
her
parents, via the Red River route in a
covered
wagon. Mr. and Mrs. Winning have eight children. Miss Doris Winning of

J. Winning.
Doris was
born August 6, 1893 in Neepawa,
Man. She started her
teaching
career in 1915 and taught at Aberdeen,
John M. King, General Wolfe and Glenlawn Collegiate. She retired in
1954 after
39 years.
Doris started
playing the violin as a young child and
later in addition to teaching in the public school system she gave
private
violin lessons during those years.
After
retirement Doris continued teaching
violin and
also taught students with special needs.
Doris had a zest
for life to the very last day. She was
the mainstay of a large family and never failed to help any member of
her
family if called on to do so. She had an intense interest in family,
music and
sports and a continuing thirst for knowledge.
She will be
sadly missed by all who knew her.
The family
would like to thank the staff of the Grace
Hospital for their kindness in
caring
for Doris.

store for his uncle, the late W. J. Winning, at Sunny Nook, Alberta. In

years, he was employed by The Winnipeg Parks Board. Surviving are two

Mr. Winning
was born in Cupar,
Sask. in 1910. He spent
most of his life in Winnipeg,
having attended
John M. King, Mulvey and Gordon Bell schools. He served in the R.C.A.F.
in
Maintenance for almost five years, with postings in Kamloops,
Tofino and Vancouver,
B.C. Bill was an avid reader and had a
tremendous interest in law. He kept himself informed constantly of
world
affairs, especially in the field of all sciences, particularly
Astronomy. He
was a staunch advocate of Women's Rights, generous, warm-hearted,
charitable
and proud of being a Canadian.
The family
wishes to express heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to Dr.
Kirkpatrick, Dr.
McDowell, their assistants and the nurses who gave him such excellent
care
during his illness at Grace
Hospital.

MABEL WINNING (nee THOMPSON) After a lengthy battle with cancer, Iris
Mabel Winning passed away at Stonewall Hospital, on Friday, March 10,
2017, at the age of 77 years. Iris will be missed by her loving husband
and best friend, David B. Winning; their two children, Cynthia and
David K. Winning (Dawna); as well as her precious grandchildren, Rod
Bremner (Caitlin), Karly Havens (Kyle), Alaura and Ethan. She will also
be missed by her step-grandchildren, Spencer and Cooper; four
great-grandchildren, Ayden, Sierra, Alexis and Maya; her sisters, Betty
and Audrey (John); brothers, Dennis (Lorna) and Jerry (Midge);
sister-in-law Diane (Jim); brother-in-law Kim (Arlene); as well as many
nieces and nephews whom she held close. Education, home life and family
were the most important things in Iris' life. Family dinners, pool
parties and farmyard tent parties surrounded by family and friends were
her favourite activities. Her favourite time of year was spring, when
she could watch old friends appear through her precious flower beds and
plant her garden of vegetables and herbs. Iris spent her life in the
education field. She loved her career and missed her students very much
when she retired. She continued to educate after retirement through her
grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A Funeral Service to honour Iris
will be held on Friday, April 21, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of
Memories in Wojcik's Funeral Chapel, 1020 Main Street at Manitoba
Avenue, Winnipeg. The family would like to thank all those who helped
us through this difficult time with gifts of their time, phone calls
and meals. Special thanks to Dr. Czaykowski and especially Denise
Klassen, whom Iris trusted and adored, as well as all the home care and

David Brian Winning
DAVID
BRIAN WINNING
After
a brief illness, David Brian Winning passed away at Stonewall Hospital,
on Friday, September 30, 2022, at the age of 83 years.
David
will be missed and has now rejoined his wife Iris Mable Winning
(deceased). David's two children, Cynthia and David K. Winning (Dawna)
will also miss him; as well as his grandchildren, Rod (Caitlin), Karly,
Alaura and Ethan, step-grandchildren, Spencer and Cooper. He will also
be missed by his five great-grandchildren, Ayden, Sierra, Alexis, Ryder
and Maya; sister Diane; brother Kim (Arlene), pre-deceased by his
sister Heather and his brother in-law Jim. He will also be missed by
his sisters and brothers in-law, Betty and Audrey (John); Dennis
(Lorna) and Jerry (Midge); as well as many nieces and nephews whom he
held close.
Home
life and family were the important things in David's life. He remained
an active snowmobiler and enjoyed his weekend quad rides in the
summer's months. Family dinners, pool parties and farmyard gatherings
surrounded by family and friends were part of his favourite activities.
David spent years as a farmer and a businessman and had entered
retirement thereafter enjoying years of travel with Iris. He continued,
in this manner, after retirement and enjoyed his grandchildren and
great-grandchildren.
A
Celebration of Life will be held in 2023 to acknowledge this unique
person, his accomplishments and of course to enjoy his life stories.

JOAN E. TURNBULL (nee SELLERS) It is
with great sadness that our family announces the passing of Joan
Turnbull, aged 68 years, at St. Boniface General Hospital, after a
lengthy illness. Joan was predeceased by her parents Gordon and Monica
Sellers, as well as her brother-in-law Ted Dalgleish. Mom will be
forever loved and sadly missed by her husband of 43 years, Thomas; sons

nephews and many wonderful friends she shared her life with. Mom grew
up in Thunder Bay, Ont. and was a avid athlete. As a teen she worked as
an au pair at Loon Lake, Ont., where she met Dad. Mom and Dad courted
during her training at St. Micheals Nursing School and following their
marriage in 1956, she pursued her vocations at many locations in
Canada. Moms special interest was pediatric nursing, which she sadly
left due to the physical demands. However, for many years prior to
retirement she enjoyed sharing her gift of working with others at St.
Boniface General Hospital Psychiatric Unit. Moms greatest joy was to
spend time with family. She was a loving and selfless Mom, creating a
family atmosphere which nurtured our devotion to each other. We have
fond memories of the times we spent together dancing to music,
entertaining family friends (who didnt love the boxing day parties she
threw!) and an especially magical summer vacation we had at Clear Lake.
We are ever grateful our home was an open gathering place for us and
our friends during our teenage years. Guitars, singing and teenage
exuberance were welcomed; she was a keen supporter of the St. Alphonsus
Folk Group. Moms home of the heart was always at her family cabin at
Silver Islet, outside Thunder Bay, and she has requested her ashes be
spread there following her remembrance service at St. Alphonsus Roman
Catholic Church. The family would like to invite friends to join us at
St. Alphonsus at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 27 to celebrate Moms life.

JOHN RICHARD (DICK)
TURNBULL Peacefully on February 10, 2013, Dick passed away with his
family at his side. He was born in Winnipeg MB on May 18, 1933 and
lived there his entire life. For many years his career was in sales and
management in the Real Estate field; however his passion and retirement
hours were spent working with Stained Glass. Dick was predeceased by
his father Robert Brown Turnbull in 1975, his mother Enid Rachel
Winning in 2000, his sister-in-law Joan Turnbull in 2000 and his
brother Tom Turnbull in 2004. Dick is survived by Margaret, his wife of
nearly 40 years, son Rick and wife Kelley, of Winnipeg, MB, daughter
Sandra Turnbull, of Summerland, BC, and stepchildren Norma Huculak and
husband Chris, of Kelowna, BC and Ronald Birchard, of Winnipeg, MB. He
will also be missed by his grandchildren David Turnbull (Jessyca), of
Vancouver, BC, Danielle Turnbull (Shaun), of Winnipeg, MB, Hannah
Wright and Emily Wright, of Summerland, BC, Robin Huculak, and Zachary
Huculak, of Kelowna, BC, as well as several nieces and nephews in

McCulloch
McCULLOCH, Dora Louise (nee
Philp) March 12, 1913 - Nov. 20, 2004. On November 20, 2004 Mrs. Dora
McCulloch
passed away at the age of 91 years. Dora was born in Glasgow, Scotland
and came
to Canada in 1952 with her husband and son. She was a graduate of
Glasgow University
in Honours History (1935) and had her Associate London College of Music
degree.
Dora was appointed to the Board of Governors and the Senate of the
University
of Alberta (1968-1974). She was a director of the Society for the
Retired and
Semi Retired from 1987 to 1991 and served as its President from 1989 to
1991.
Dora was made a provincial lifetime member of the I.O.D.E. Earl of St.
Andrew
Chapter. She was a past president of the Kiwanis ladies in Edmonton
where she
was involve in the Kiwanis Music Festival. She also served as a member
of the
Alberta Minister of Education's Curriculum Committee, and the Alberta
Education
Council. Dora's community service left her with many friends. Special
thanks to
her friend June Menzies and the staff at the Hardisty Nursing Home.
Predeceased
by her husband Duncan and sister Jess she is survived by her son Duncan
and his
wife Marlene. These is no service at Dora's request.
